With the introduction of the Bunderool conveyer belt carpet in the location where the Basin Park previously resided, we had the opportunity to create something new and exciting for the park riders of Hotham, and The Playground is it. The decision was made in consultation with local riders from the Hotham community, and our Park Crew can’t wait to get this new location up and running. .
With the removal of the Playground double chair, including the towers in the summer of 2022/23, the terrain to skiers right on the Sun Run has been opened up, and this season, will be home to Hotham’s new Terrain Park, aptly named ‘The Playground’. Starring similar features to the Basin Park, with a little extra flair and length, there’s some great benefits of the new location, such as:
-
Being able to lap The Playground on Road Runner Chair.
-
Double the length of your park laps by heading up the Summit Quad, riding the Summit Park, then cutting across to ride over the bridge to hit up The Playground.
-
On bad weather days, it’ll still be hike-able (and fairly protected).
-
We have snowmaking and good natural snowfall accumulation in this area, so we’ll be able to get it up and running quickly.
Our new Terrain Parks Supervisor, Briony Johnson, is excited by the opportunities the new location will bring, “It’s a bigger slope area for us to play with. I know it has really great potential and I’m excited to be creative with a new space. Rest assured, this will be one of the most enjoyable spots on the hill, hence the name The Playground.”
Keep an eye on our socials to see the new park in action, or better yet, plan your Hotham trip now to come and ride it for yourself.
If you don’t already have an Epic Australia Pass, lock one in now to shred Hotham, Falls Creek and Perisher all season, plus the best of North America, Japan and Europe in the 2024/25 Northern Winter.
See you in The Playground soon!
