Heading to the mountains for a holiday is quite the adventure! The better planned and prepared you are, the more fun you’re bound to have. So, with that in mind, we’ve pulled together some of the best insider tips and things to know before you snow, to make your trip smooth sailing!
Booking online in advance
Let’s get the most important tip out of the way first. Make sure you book your lift tickets, lessons and rentals online before your trip. It’s a no brainer! Save yourself extra hassle when you arrive, ensure you don’t miss out on lessons (they may sell out in peak periods) and the best part, if you buy online at least 7 days in advance, you can save up to 35%.
Getting here
To make sure you and other road users reach the slopes safely, Diamond Pattern Wheel Chains must be carried and fitted where directed during the declared winter season. Keep an eye on the conditions and the road status so you know when chain fitting is required. If you’re looking to hire chains, we’d suggest checking out a few options here. You’ll also need a resort entry permit, which you can purchase online here. Drive safe out there!
What to wear
Dress in layers when at the snow – just like an onion! Depending on temperatures, you may wear 3 or 4 layers consisting of a base layer, mid layer and an outer layer (waterproof jacket and pant). Correct fitting socks can also make or break your day. Thick or thin, it doesn’t matter as long as they come up above the top of your boots. For the little ones, make sure they’re rugged up with a beanie, neck warmer and gloves or mitts.
Stay in the know
Make the most of your trip to Australia's powder capital by keeping across current conditions, lift operations and the forecast with the Hotham App, daily snow report, lift & terrain status page and the 14 day weather forecast. Conditions can change in the blink of an eye, so stay informed!
