In typical alpine fashion, there’s a chance that there could be snow falling from late Saturday afternoon through Sunday, so please check the information below to be fully prepared for your visit.
Chains and chain hire
If the snowfall gets heavy, you may need to carry wheel chains and fit them if directed by Vic Roads. There will be signage along the road providing this direction if required. To hire wheel chains, contact one of our friendly providers below.
• Hoys Harrietville - Open for chain hire on Fri 9am-5pm, Sat 10am-4pm and Mon 10am-4pm. Ph: 03 5759 3221
• Hoys Omeo – Not open but has chain drop off box on veranda for through traffic.
• Omeo Ski Hire & Service Station just now – Open for chain hire Fri – Mon, 7.30am – 6.30pm. Ph: 03 5159 1600
Diesel cars
If you drive a diesel car we recommend using a diesel fuel anti-gelling additive to help ensure you are able to get going at the end of the day. This can be purchased at service stations in Bright or Omeo. Please note that there are no commercial fuel supplies at Mt Hotham.
Weather
It will be cold and possibly windy, so bring plenty of warm, waterproof clothing. Make sure you’re prepared for a day outdoors. Day visitors could consider a change of clothes for the trip home.
