Victoria’s Back Country Festival is back for 2023! A celebration of ‘all things back country’, from alpine touring and cross-country skiing, to split boarding and snow camping, and everything in between.
The Victorian Backcountry festival is an annual volunteer-run event by the backcountry community for the backcountry community. The festival aims to provide an introduction to backcountry activities, to make it more accessible to the general public while promoting education about mountain safety. Several guided tours are being run, accounting for a variety of levels from fresh beginners through to advanced tourers. Also on the program are a number of workshops, including a survival course and avalanche training, key speakers and film presentations, a ski demo village, repair café and opportunities to win some great prizes.
For the party people; there’s a Friday night welcome party presented by Arc'teryx from 6pm at The Moth, Saturday and Sunday morning breakfasts hosted by Patagonia, and an outdoor bar by Bright Brewery on Saturday to rival last year’s incredible set up. All of the weekend’s activities are family friendly, and we’re looking forward to it being another welcoming and inclusive event at Mt Hotham.
