MIGHTY MITES 

Thank you to all our guests who joined us in the 2024 season. We look forward to welcoming you back to Hotham next winter.

Perfect for youngsters aged 3 to 6 years old, our Mighty Mites ski program helps your kids progress their skills in a fun and social environment. With full day and half day programs to choose from, there's something for everyone. 

Epic Australia Pass holders receive 20% off Mighty Mites Lessons, when purchased online and in advance.  

What you need to know

Our Mighty Mites ski program is available for youngsters aged between three and six years old. The program involves small class sizes and utilises extra indoor staff to assist and help maximise your child’s Mighty Mites experience.

If you require rental equipment, we advise you get fitted the evening before your lesson. Hotham Sports Kids is conveniently located within the Big D building and can cover all your child’s equipment hire needs. 

Half Day Mighty Mites Lesson

  • Available all season
  • Registration commences at 9:00am
  • Meet at the Big D, bus stop 5
  • Ends at 12:30pm for pick-up
  • Ages 3-6
  • Ski lessons ONLY

Full Day Mighty Mites Lesson

  • Available June 24th - September 8th
  • Registration commences at 9:00am
  • Meet at the Big D, bus stop 5
  • Ends at 3:00pm for pick-up
  • Ages 3-6
  • Lunch Included
  • Ski lessons ONLY

You must arrive at the Big D and have your child ready to hit the snow by registering your child between 9.00am and 9.45am. Once registration has closed, we cannot guarantee your child a spot in the program on that day.

Children are required to be at least 3 years of age, toilet trained and in underwear for this program.

If your child is staying for a full day program, please pack some indoor shoes for your child for afternoon activities.

Meeting place

All Mighty Mites participants will meet inside the Big D building which is located at bus stop number five. 

Registration is between 9:00-9:30am.

Pick up times

Half day programs finish at 12.30pm. Pick up location is within the Big D building.

For children booked into a full day program, pick up time is 3.00pm, inside the lower level of the Big D building.

Here is a list of essential items to pack for your child’s Mighty Mites lesson: 

  • Skis
  • A valid Mountain Access Card, with Mighty Mites and a valid lift ticket loaded onto it 
  • Ski boots – these should be on your child’s feet when they arrive at Mighty Mites 
  • Helmet (compulsory for all children & teens in Hotham Snowsports Programs) 
  • Goggles and/or sunglasses to protect your child’s eyes from glare 
  • Waterproof snow pants and jacket 
  • Warm layers under outerwear 
  • Ski socks (not cotton) 
  • Waterproof mittens or gloves 
  • Neck warmer/ tube or Balaclava 
  • Sunscreen SPF 15 or higher 
  • Any medications (note that our Children’s Snowsports Centres are nut free zones)

Hotham’s Helmet Policy requires that all participants in Children's Snowsports Programs, plus any programs that access our terrain parks, racecourses or similar activities wear an approved snowsports helmet.

Mighty Mites Full Day Programs (3-6 years)

Maximise your time on the slopes with our new Mighty Mites full day programs.

While we aim to provide as much time on snow as possible, some children in full day programs will spend time in the afternoon inside our activity centre, downstairs at the Big D. This will be assessed on the day based on age, weather conditions and how the group is feeling. 

Lunch is provided for all children in full day programs, please let us know of any dietary requirements when checking your child in.

Pick up is at 3:00pm from the Big D.

Skiers:

Koala (1) first time skiing or still learning how to stop using a snowplough. I am learning how to balance and slide on my skis with the goal being to make a snowplough stop.

Possum (2) I can stop using a snowplough on beginner terrain. I am ready to learn how to make small turns.

Wombat (3) I can confidently ski down green terrain in a snowplough using small turns. I am ready to learn to consolidate these snowplough turns on steeper terrain.

Echidna (4) I can confidently make strong turns in a small snowplough down green and some blue terrain. I am ready to learn to match my skis at the end of our turns (basic christie).

Lyrebird (5) I can confidently ski down blue terrain in a basic christie. I am ready to learn how to ski parallel.

Kangaroo (6) I can confidently ski parallel down all blue terrain. I am ready to learn how to perfect my balance and control on steeper and ungroomed terrain. This level is learning to use poles and it is recommended but not mandatory to bring poles along to the lessons.

Lift access is not included in your lesson purchase and all lesson participants require a valid lift ticket regardless of their ability level. Find out more about lift tickets here.

Children aged 3 & 4 participating in Snowsports Lessons are eligible for free lift access. Please note you will need to purchase this access online, in advance and ensure your child has a valid Mountain Access Card.
