Sharpen those edges and slap on the screen.
The east coast low has departed our neighbourhood, and we are now in for a spell of much more user-friendly weather. The sky is clear, there is just a light breeze from the northwest, the current temperature is minus 1.3 and we are heading for a very pleasant top of 3 degrees.
The overnight clearing has meant the snow has had a freeze and will be firm to start the day, before the sunny slopes soften as the day warms. South facing and shaded aspects will likely stay hard and crunchy for longer, so stick to the groomers and follow the sun for the best turns all day. Off piste areas will be best avoided until there has been significant warming.
The east coast low has impacted the cover, so Blue Ribbon will be on hold until the snow softens considerably, and First Tracks will be on Road Runner this morning, while the Heavenly Valley area is being prepared for opening at 0830.
Sharpen your edges and slap on the screen for a fun day in the sun.
Cheers Bill
Backcountry Conditions
Variable conditions in the backcountry today. The clearing overnight has given the snowpack a much-needed freeze but it will likely be just a breakable crust in some areas. All steep slopes will pose a sliding hazard this morning, north facing aspects will soften as the day warms but south facing and shaded aspects may stay icy and slick for the day. Take care out there.
